With a low of 6°C last night, life for the chicks changed.
For the first time since they hatched, mum left the
chicks alone
and they
all
had
to
huddle
together
to keep warm:
Huddled
together at 1.43am
this morning.
Excitement
No one has yet made the jump for
freedom today, but at times it has
got
very
close
and
everyone
seems
a little excited about life:
Sit
back and enjoy this video, it's 12 minutes long ... excitement
in the nest gets a little noisy and preparations are being made here.
So Close
Several times this morning a chick has poked its head out, and
very nearly looked like it was going:
The
time for fledging is just getting so
close.
Feeding
Feeding routines have also changed, and dad did well to find a
caterpillar this morning, and if you're by the hole you've
got a good chance of getting the meal:
The
serving hatch.
There will be another update later and we'll see if anyone
has decided that today is the day ...
